My Little Silhouette Necklace

January 19, 2012
My little boy will always be with me!

A little while ago, I found this wonderful tutorial about how to make a silhouette necklace over at papernstitch. I knew immediately that I had to make one of my son, so I went to the craft store to buy some Shrinky Dinks paper -- which I have since fallen in love with -- and set to work.

First I had to find a photograph that shows a profile of my son -- luckily I had a couple because I knew that trying to pose him for a specific photo would definitely not work. It was so much fun looking through all of the photographs again to find the perfect profile shot.

Then I set to work with the Shrinky Dinks paper. My computer screen was my light box because the profile photo is on the computer, not my phone. At first, the paper was proving quite difficult to draw on, but I pushed really hard and the pencil lines started showing up. Once I was done tracing his little head, I tried to begin colouring, but the pencil crayon just wasn't showing up like it did in the tutorial. I looked at the instructions again and found out that I was, in fact, colouring on the wrong side of the paper...

After I cooked up the little head and the little heart, I set to work making my necklace. As simple as it is, I absolutely love it. I now have my little boy everywhere with me when I wear this necklace :)
