The Newest Member of The Family: Casper

April 16, 2023
Inspiration comes from a lot of different places, but if you've been around for a while, you know that one of my greatest inspirations was our dog, Ivan. He passed away at the end of 2019, and two years later we added another member to our family, Casper.

I just realised that I have never introduced him to you, so I thought the perfect time would be when I shared my latest art print with you. It's a tribute to the curled-up pup that you have come to know and love, and it's called "Another Nap". I love that both of my little buddies enjoy making such a tight little donut shape with their bodies.

It felt like a nice tribute to my little pup, while making Casper curl a different direction makes the art print distinctly him. Perhaps I should make a pin of him as well. What do you think?

My Korean Skincare Routine: Protect

February 12, 2023

The last two products in my Korean skincare routine as layed out here on Soko Glam are moisturizer and sunscreen: the protectors that seal in the moisture and goodies from the nourishing steps, and prevent further damage from the elements. There are a couple of products that I will make another post about because my routines differ between morning and night.

THE MOISTURIZER

I originally had been using the moisturizer from Cerave, but switched to The Ordinary when they started making the bottles significantly smaller. It has a lot of similar ingredients to Cerave, including ceramides.

I have never had many issues with moisturizers, as long as they are fragrance-free, and, essentially, a basic lotion that doesn't clog my pores. Cerave was originally introduced to me by my family physician after I had some issues with using a face oil as a moisturizer, so I continue to stay away from those kinds of products.

THE SUN PROTECTION

Sunscreen was a difficult thing for me to find, but after some searching, I settled with Play Everyday Lotion from Supergoop. I originally tried a tinted formula and it left a film on my face that I didn't like. It's hard to find something that doesn't leave either a thick white film that pills, or a greasy film, and so I chose to go with the greasy film.

I will say that I am very happy with this sunscreen, and while I tend to have a little bit of a shine from it, it does soak nicely into my skin, and I have not been irritated by it at all.

My Curly Hair Journey: 2.5 Years

January 15, 2023

This winter, I started to add some stuff to my routine, as well as change the way I do some things (thanks to this blog post):

1. I stopped scrunching out my hair once it was dry, and started letting it naturally crunch itself out during the day. This helped to keep the moisture sealed into my hair, as I had started to noticed that my hair was a lot more dry by the end of the day at work.

2. I started giving myself a scalp massage with some oil once a week, and then clarifying it with apple cider vinegar.

3. I have been drying my hair completely instead of letting it air dry for the last little bit of time.

4. I have been applying products and squeezing out extra water in the shower (while my head is upside down) and have not been plopping.

Through these four things, I have noticed that my hair is able to retain moisture a lot longer, as well as keep the curl a lot longer before I wash it again. It's been quite surprising, but I it's the best kind of surprise!
