It is the beginning of September, once again, marking the beginning of World Alzheimer's Month. As in years past, we are donating 15% of proceeds from all sales in the shop for this month to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan where they programs and services, awareness, advocacy and research where they seek to "[empower] all people to live well with dementia while funding research into prevention, cures and quality of life."

Over the last eight (8) years we have donated $190 to the Alzheimer Societies of Saskatchewan and Canada in honour of my Grandma. Please visit the shop (Etsy or Square) to make a purchase in support of World Alzheimer's Month. Let's get past $200 this year!

It is the beginning of September, a month that the shop has recognised each year since 2014 in memory of my Grandma. Each year, 15% of our profits for the month of September (World Alzheimer's Month) are donated to support those who are suffering from Alzheimer's and dementia, as well as their families, and to promote research. 

In previous years, we donated to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada, but for the last couple of years we have kept it local by donating to the Alzheimer's Society of  Saskatchewan. To date, you have helped donate nearly $200 to both organizations.

Shop Update: World Alzheimer's Month 2020

 

I am so excited to be able to share that with you support, we were able to donate $20 to the Alzheimer's Society of Saskatchewan this year. It's an odd year this year with not being able to do in-person handmade markets, so I was a bit worried about how much we would be able to collect for donations, but you came through and made lots of purchases in September, making it so we could add to our total. So far, including this year, we have donated $180 to the Alzheimer's Societies of Canada and Saskatchewan. Thank you!!

Since 2014, we have been donating 15% of profits from the month of September to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada, and last year the Alzheimer's Society of Saskatchewan. This year will be no different. You can read about why we donate here.

To date, you have helped us donate over $160 to support to those who are suffering from the disease and their families, and to promote research. That is absolutely amazing! 

This year we will not be able to attend any local markets, and so it would mean so much to us if you would take the time to visit our shop this month to make a purchase. Let's see if this year can push us past $200!!

September 1 marked the beginning of World Alzheimer's Month and the shop's 6th September supporting the Alzheimer's Socitety of Canada.

As with previous years, when you make a purchase in the shop, including at an markets we attend, 15% of your purchase will be donated to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada where they provide support to those who are suffering from the disease and their families, and to promote research.

My family was affected by Alzheimer's many years ago when my Grandma was diagnosed with the disease. It was incredibly difficult to watch not only her suffer through her last few years, but my Grandpa and Dad as well.

I don't know if there will ever be a cure, or even a solid way to prevent Alzheimer's and dementia, but I do know that I will continue to support ALZ Canada as long as the shop is open in the hopes that your contribution through purchasing something for your own family or friends will help someone else's.

It is September 1st, and that marks the beginning of World Alzheimer's Month, and the fifth time that you will be supporting the Alzheimer's Society of Canada when you make a purchase in the shop. It is unbelievable that it has been that long since we started donating to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada, and, to date, you have helped to raise over $120.

The Forget-Me-Not flower (which I have drawn this year) is a powerful symbol for people with Alzheimer's and their families. It is often used to symbolise the loss of memory, but is also a reminder to remember the people that we have lost to Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. 

As you may know, the disease has touched my family as my Grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when I was a teenager, and, over the years I have shared pieces of our story with you. It means so much to me that you continue to help support the cause and give a voice to those affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.

Forget Her Not: World Alzheimer's Month 2017

My grandparents lived in Australia for most of my life. They were ex-pats in search of adventures that took them around the world with their family, but life brought them back home as they began to age and wanted to be near family. Not too long after they moved back, my Grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and she moved into a wonderful care home where my Grandpa would go and visit her every day.

If I'm being honest, I never really knew my Grandma. Having lived in Australia and only visiting a couple of times until I was in high school, the opportunity to get to know her before the disease took over was never there. Most of what I do know comes from the stories my Grandpa and my Dad have told about her, as most of the time that I spent with her she didn't talk to me. She sounds like she was an amazingly strong woman with a fantastic sense of style. I love looking at old photographs of her as her posture suggests that she was sassy, fun and full of life.

What I do remember are little moments that I had with her, and parts of her personality that she used to conceal what was happening to her. I remember her laugh that she had when someone asked her a question she didn't know the answer to, and she would look to my Grandpa for help. Or that time I looked after her while my Dad took my Grandpa to the symphony, and she answered the phone upside-down and didn't remember that she had to say "hello".

The one thing that I know she had no difficulties with, until she lost her voice, was singing songs from yesteryear while my Grandpa sat at the piano accompanying her. They would be there for hours making music together, and I know this was a very special time for them because he would visit her at the care home and continue to play music for her to listen to -- even after she had passed, my Grandpa would continue to play music for the other residents, until he could no longer go.

It is this life. It is this memory of the most pure joy, the most pure love, that brings me back year after year for the month of September to donate 15% of the shops profits to the Alzheimer Society of Canada to provide support to those who are suffering from the disease and their families, and to promote research. Help support the cause and give a voice to those affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. Forget them not.

The Forget-Me-Not flower is a powerful symbol for people with Alzheimer's and their families. It is often used to symbolise the loss of memory, but is also a reminder to remember the people that we have lost to Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. As you may know, the disease has touched my family as my Grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when I was a teenager, and so it was very special to me when I spotted these Forget-Me-Nots while we were on vacation in Banff. It felt as if she was with me in that moment.

It was two years ago that we began this journey to provide support to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada by pledging to donate 15% of our profits for the month of September. This month was a record year, and, with your help since 2014, we have been able to donate over $40 to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada. 

Thank you for the love and support that you have given so far. I look forward to adding to the number next year!

September is here once again, and, just as we did last year, 15% of the profits from the shop for this month will be donated to The Canadian Alzheimer's Society. This disease touched my family many years ago when my grandma was diagnosed -- she lost her fight 12 years ago now -- and continues to make an impact on our lives.

Earlier this year, my mom and I watched the film Still Alice, and were incredibly moved by it. We gained a deeper understanding of the affects that the disease has on the person suffering from it, as well as the impact that it has on the family members. I was especially touched by a few moments between Alice and her husband as I saw my grandma and grandpa up on the screen. It is most definitely worth watching. Even if you have not felt the affects of Alzheimer's personally, it helps provide a better understanding of the disease.

The money that you used to purchase a card, art print, or brooch from the shop this month will provide support to those who are suffering from the disease and their families, and to promote research. Help support the cause and give a voice to those affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.

Shop Announcement: World Alzheimer's Month

Today marks the beginning of a new month. September means a lot of different things to different people: it is the beginning of the new school year; it's the month to celebrate the birth of a child, or a family member; it is the month in which you got married.

September is also World Alzheimer's Month.

Alzheimer's touched my family many years ago when my Grandma was diagnosed with it. Like most people that suspect a family member is suffering from memory loss, there were some members of my family that didn't want to admit what was happening to her until her memories were so lost that she tried to hurt the man that she loved for most of her life, who, even after she was safely in a home where there were people to care for her, would visit her on a daily basis to play the piano for her and visit with her for hours upon hours. They had a beautiful relationship.

That's why for the month of September I will be donating 15% of the shop profits to the Alzheimer Society of Canada to provide support to those who are suffering from the disease and their families, and to promote research. Help support the cause and give a voice to those affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
