Shop Update: LGBT Wedding Cards + Custom Cards

June 30, 2015

Yesterday I announced that if you wanted the wedding equation card for two brides or two grooms to let me know and I would make one for you -- as I had previously mentioned in the listing -- but this week seemed as good as any to draw up the cards to show you what they would actually look like instead of imagining them and then having to contact me. This way you can order the card and then mention which one you would like in the "Message to Seller" box. I will also be doing this with the penguin couple.

I also made some custom cards for a customer using a couple of art prints that are already available in the shop -- here and here. That is a request that I don't mind at all fulfilling, as long as it isn't with a limited edition art print. I think they look rather cute, actually.

And there he is: one week after getting his hair shaved off. He was none-too-pleased with me as I had asked him to get his socks on before we headed out to the listen to some music in the park. He struggles with getting his socks on his feet when his feet are sweaty -- don't we all.

The Summer List 2015

June 24, 2015

I had some fun writing out this year's Summer List. I started making a summer list after reading about it on the blog Meg + Andy, here. I thought it was such a great idea, and a great way of having fun throughout the summer -- it will be especially nice when Little Boy gets older and can help make the list.

I started off small the first year, but this year the goals have become more lofty. I've added things that acquire a bit more attention that I think he'll enjoy more this year. I'm sure we'll add more things to the list as the summer goes on -- in fact, I have just thought of a couple more to add after looking at our previous lists. This summer is going to be awesome!

This is a day later than I expected to post, but yesterday he got his hair cut -- and I mean cut -- so I made sure to snap one last photo before it was all gone. It's amazing how much hair can change the look of a person.

5 Songs I Loved During Maternity Leave: Part 5

June 17, 2015

As I mentioned in Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4, I had a lot of time to peruse the internet while I was on maternity leave. My son and I always enjoyed listening to music while I was working on the shop, and we would often find bands and musicians that we had never heard of before through YouTube. I wanted to share with you five songs that I really enjoyed listening to -- and discovered -- while I was on maternity leave back in 2011/12.

Ellie Goulding had a song that was already on the radio, but it wasn't one that I necessarily enjoyed. Fortunately she was redeemed when I found this beautiful song on You Tube. I don't remember how I found this song. It was probably a random link that showed up after I listened to a song from Adele, or something to that effect -- my son was actually in love with "Someone Like You", and it was the only thing that would calm him down in the car. But I digress. Ellie Goulding has a beautiful voice, and I was -- and still am -- in love with this song.

Summer Favourites 2015

June 15, 2015
I hope you have been enjoying the sunshine that's been coming your way! We've been basking in it, and while we've been taking a break with a bit of rain -- that's well needed -- I'm excited thinking about all of the things that I want to do and wear this summer. Here are a few of my favourite things this season...

High-waisted swim suits like this one from Mod Cloth are a fun way to wear a bikini, and a romper or jumpsuit like this one from Forever 21 is a nice way to feel summery without having to wear a dress. There are some really classy versions of these styles that are easy to dress-up for a night out, and, if you're short like me, there are options like a cropped pant.

A trip to the mountains like the one we did last year as a family is a wonderful vacation to enjoy the beauty of nature, and there are lots of options to stay if you're not one for camping. While you're on holidays and enjoying the sun, it's nice to get your hair off the back of your neck. I like to do a ponytail with a twist, and often incorporate some sort of braid like this one.

I'm not usually one for putting on loads of make-up during the summer months when it's just going to melt off anyway. It's nice to keep it simple sometimes and just put on some foundation -- over top of sunscreen, of course -- and add a little mascara and some lip gloss like this look. While you're relaxing with your family and your barely-there-make-up, it's nice to have a cold drink in your hand. I love fresh-squeezed lemonade, and really enjoy this recipe for sparkling raspberry lemonade -- no need to make it sparking, though.

I just about died from his adorable-ness when he put on these overalls that I had to take some photos to capture it forever. Why do they always look so cute on children?

Sandbox Water Play

June 10, 2015

Saturday was a rather wonderfully warm day. So as I planted my flowers around the yard, Little Boy had fun playing with the water hose in the backyard. He started off watering the vegetable garden, then moved on to washing the fence, and when I came back from planting flowers in the front yard he had drenched himself with water. We put on his bathing suit, and he proceeded to play with the water in his sandbox. It was a lot of fun watching him have fun exploring with water -- but, then again, he has always enjoyed the water.

He has gotten used to the things that I tell him to say so that I can get different expressions on his face while we are taking photos for this project. As soon as we got him settled in position he started saying "I love mom. I love dad. Ivan is stinky." Perhaps it's time to start mixing it up.

National Running Day: Celebrating Why I Run

June 03, 2015

Today is national running day, and I am celebrating the reason why I got into running. In the above photo I had just completed my very first 5K run, and I wouldn't strap on my shoes again until two years later. Before I gave birth to our son, I wasn't hard-core with exercising -- I trained for a month for this 5K -- and believed that I did fine with maintaining my weight, but in reality I was getting older and gaining weight.

I gained quite a bit of weight during my pregnancy, and, despite what I was promised, very little came off through breastfeeding. It wasn't until just over a year after our son was born that I had my epiphany and began my weight loss journey. Running was my jumping off point as it was something I could easily do outside or on the treadmill downstairs. I could put my son to bed, and slip on my shoes while keeping the baby monitor close by. It was something simple that would help me lose weight, and still allow me to be there for my child. Throughout the past three years of running, I have completed various goals, and look forward to pushing myself to complete another one in a couple of weeks when I go run my first race of the season.

As someone that avoided running because of my asthma, I am proud of how much I have pushed myself and I am grateful for what running has given me. Why don't you lace-up those shoes and hit the pavement with me?

Shop Update: Flock & Gather Photos + Being In A Brick & Mortar Shop

June 01, 2015
Flock & Gather is fortunate enough to have a fabulous local photographer that wanders around and snaps photos of the vendors and their tables. These are the photos that MAKI FOTOS took of me and the table that weekend. I am grateful that she was there to document it all!

In other news, Little Shop of ElleSee cards, and a couple of framed art prints, are now available at a shop called Hen + Chick Studios. It is very exciting for me to be able to see my work in brick & mortar stores, and to hear that people are really excited about them -- one of my co-workers said she popped in the other day to buy a card.
