Music that Shouts "Summer!"

I want to share with you today a few songs that I have been listening to recently or for the last little while that really shout out "Summer!" to me. These are the kind of songs that I would listen to while driving to no specific destination on a road trip, or sitting by a campfire while roasting marshmallows to make s'mores, or having a backyard BBQ with friends. I'm diggin' them, and I hope you will too :)

Kodaline - One Day (the video above) - I discovered this song this weekend, and it is what started the ball rolling for writing this blog post. I love their sound.

Grouplove - Tongue Tied - Sometimes I like to explore YouTube and see what different music I can find that I wouldn't normally stumble upon, this song was one of them.

The XX - Intro - I first heard this song in a Vimeo video called Le Flâneur and I fell in love with it instantly.

Imagine Dragons - Radioactive - Check out this awesome video from Etch Films that features this song.

Armin van Buuren feat. Trevor Guthrie - This Is What It Feels Like - I heard this song on the radio a couple of months ago, and loved it. I haven't been able to stop listening to it since.

Singers That We Secretly Love

The other day at work, a few of the ladies and I were talking about singers that we secretly love and would be embarrassed to share with the world. Brittany Spears came up, as did Shania Twain, Celine Dion and Sarah Brightman. We talked about how rude it is that some people feel the need to judge you for the music that you listen to, and think less of you because you enjoy the music of someone that they think is awful. We then talked about our favourite songs from the above artists. If you've read through this blog, you know that I love Celine Dion, and here is my favourite song of her's:

Honestly, I love so many songs of her's, but I remember that her Falling into You album was the very first compact disk that I ever bought -- when my family bought a CD player, my Dad gave each of the members of my family $25 to buy whatever album we wanted. "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" is the very first song on the album and I really love the way the song begins -- that piano -- and don't get me started on her voice.

I guess mine isn't much of a secret anymore, but what singers do you secretly love?

What's That You Sang?

We've all been there: the road trip, or just a night out with friends. We're all singing a popular song in the car, and you don't quite know the words. Now, there are two things that might happen. You might just mumble the words that you're unclear of, or you belt them out because you honestly believe that those are the actual lyrics to the song.

The following is a list of songs that I have recently learned that I misheard the lyrics:

1. I realise that the words are in the title of Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me", but I honestly thought they were saying "Pour some soup on me" until I belted it out one night when my husband -- then boyfriend -- was driving me home and informed me that I was singing the wrong words.

2. For the longest time -- and I mean until this year -- I thought the first part of Blur's "Song 2" went like this: "I got my head shaved/by Ichambochay", but I was wrong. Really wrong. The actual words are "I got my head checked/by a Jumbo Jet", and now I hear it correctly every single time I listen to the song.

3. Please tell me I'm not the only one out there that though Tone-Lōc was saying "Funky comadeena" instead of "Funky Cold Medina".

4. I didn't know the name of Classified's song "Inner Ninja" until I had heard it several times and my husband and I wanted to know what it was called. I thought he was saying "Playin' a ninja" when, in fact, he was actually saying "My inner ninja". Even though I now know what he is actually saying, I still can't hear it properly.

5. This one is kind of embarrassing because this song has been out for a while, but I just realised the other day that Pink is singing "You gotta get up and try" instead of "You gotta give love a try". It's like all of a sudden it clicked and my ears started hearing it properly. It felt like I had discovered a lost world or something as I shouted out "Omigod! Thaaat's what she's saying!" because I was in the car by myself.

Back to the 90's

After reading a blog post about Trina's favourite songs from the 90's, it really got me thinking about my favourite songs from that decade.

There are so many songs that I enjoy now from that time, and so many bands that I have come to appreciate as my music pallet has expanded -- Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill, Green Day, Daft Punk, and A Tribe Called Quest, to name a few -- but the following songs, in no particular order, are the ones that I recorded off the radio so that I could listen to them any time. You know, the ones that you would sit there listening to the radio all day just to push the record button, and if you missed it because you went to the bathroom you were so mad at yourself.

These are the songs that I would rewind over and over again with my Walkman while on a road trip; the songs that got me moving and dancing; the songs that bring back good memories.
