What I Wore: My Handmade Shirt from Pakistan

I am a lucky girl. A little while ago, a lady I work with went back home for a visit in Pakistan. She offered to have some shirts made for me by her tailor. And so she asked for my measurements, took one of my shirts with her as a pattern for the tailor, and I eagerly awaited her to return.

When she came back, she gave me three beautiful shirts that had been handmade from the most amazing fabric. She said that she had picked out fabrics that she would enjoy wearing, and what I ended up getting was the most wonderful fabric that feels like you are not wearing anything. It is so soft and floats away from my body in the most breathable fashion. 

I am told that it is the summer fabric that is used on the tunics and clothing that is worn during the hottest part of Pakistan's year, and I know that it is going to be perfect for our hot days here.

What I Wore: Rebecca King Design

For as long as I have been going to Flock & Gather shows -- as a customer and now as a seller -- I have always admired Rebecca King Design. It wasn't until I did a small show this summer and had a booth quite close to her's that I finally made a purchase. 

While setting up I noticed a single piece hanging at the back of one rack that was made from the most beautiful and fun pattern. I kept my eye on that piece all day until a friend of mine arrived to purchase some cards, and I asked if she wouldn't mind watching the table so I could go try it on. 

Well, once Rebecca King put the scarf on my correctly -- I won't go into detail on how I had arranged it myself -- I knew that I had to buy it. I love it, and what makes me love it even more is knowing that it is a sample and I'm one of the first ones to own it. I feel like that's something pretty special.

One of the things that I like best about this piece -- besides the fact that it is so cozy and comfortable -- is the leather that goes from the cuff and up past my elbow along the bottom of the sleeve. I don't know if this is the intended purpose or not, but I think it's a clever way to prolong the life of the sleeve. Because somewhere along that area is usually the first to wear away.

What I Wore: LUGO 2015

As you know, I always have a fun time experiencing LUGO, and, for me and many others, part of that experience is expressing yourself through fashion. This year's theme was Lugo Gold, so I decided to go wimple with a statement necklace. I wore a cute top that I had picked up on vacation from FCUK, some leggings from Jacqueline de Yong, black booties from Call it Spring, and a gold necklace that is so old I can't remember where it came from -- probably Forever 21.

I decided to go with the leggings because, honestly, I didn't want to shave my legs, and I went with a tank top so that I would stay a little cooler while dancing -- LUGO tends to get a bit warm with all of the people that are there. I chose the necklace because, well, it's gooooold, and I wore the booties because I wanted to elongate my legs without having to wear sky-high pumps. My feet were still exhausted by the end of the night. How do people wear shoes like that all day long?

What I Wore: The Romper

I was looking all over the place for a romper that was fun and suited me well when I found this little number from the lable Rosey Burg. I tried it on because it felt like nothing I would ever wear and I was trying to be adventurous, and it turned out that I fell in love with it! It is such a beautiful pattern, and I feel sophisticated and edgy while wearing it -- which is exactly what I'm trying to feel like as I build my 30-year-old wardrobe.

What I Wore: Cat Shorts

Friday was a stay-at-home day with a sick little boy, and I was making French baguettes for a barbeque dinner with my husband's siblings that night. It was a relaxing outfit kind-of-day, but I really liked how it looked overall. I had just washed my hair, and I'm not wearing any shoes or jewellery, just the shorts and t-shirt...casual at it's best.

The Pregnancy Wardrobe

I know that it was a long time ago that I was pregnant, but I've noticed a lot of people lately on blogs and Instagram sharing pregnancy photos and outfits where they say they're still wearing their pre-pregnancy clothes and using a belly-band despite being 39 weeks pregnant. I was not that fortunate, and I can imagine for some women that it is quite frustrating to find out that other people are still wearing the clothes they had before the baby belly while you are wearing your husband's t-shirt and sweats for your pyjamas.

While I had been pregnant during the winter months and didn't get to have fun wearing little summer dresses a lot of the time, I found a few essentials that I used during my pregnancy to share with you. I had a pair of maternity jeans that I loved, a few t-shirts, a couple of nice shirts, and I wore a lot of sweaters and other things from my pre-pregnancy wardrobe that didn't need to be done up over my belly. I also had fun with accessories like brooches and belts.

It can be hard to justify spending a few hundred dollars on a wardrobe that you are going to wear only once or twice for five or so months, but it is worth it to make yourself feel good about the changes that your body is going through and you only need to grab a few essentials and a couple of pieces that make you feel extra special -- because, let's face it, what you are doing with your body makes you a whole new kind of special.

What I Wore: The Family Tartan

This past Saturday we went to a couple of special birthday parties so I used them as an opportunity to wear my kilt made in Scotland with my family tartan. I ordered my kilt from Scotweb which is based out of Scotland and has their own weaving mill. My family's tartan was not immediately available so I did have to wait a bit for them to create the fabric and then make it into a kilt -- but that makes it all the more special. I'm already planning on ordering a scarf for next Winter.

What I Wore: My New Leather Boots

I purchased my new leather boots to keep my ankles warm while wearing shorter pants during the cooler months -- as if it's possible for me to even have shorter pants. I must say that I love them, and they remind me of a pair of riding boots that my sister owned when we were younger. I got to take them to horse camp one year -- oh the memories that come back in the oddest of ways.

What I Wore: Canada Day

I am by no means a fashion blogger, but it is something that I would like to explore. I was really excited about the outfit that I wore on Monday as well as my special Canada Day nail polish that I had painted on my toes, and wanted to share it with you. So, I went outside to take photos under the hot, hot Sun and to be an afternoon snack for the mosquitoes...it was worth it :)
